As kids, you were taught by your dentist in Pompano Beach to brush your teeth every day. Since you’ve been doing it for years, you’re probably confident you’re not making any mistakes. However, according to dental health experts, the majority of their patients are using improper brushing techniques.
Brushing should be executed correctly for it to be effective. Otherwise, your efforts will all be in vain and ultimately, counterproductive.
Some people prefer to use medium or hard-bristled toothbrushes. However, the best toothbrush for cleaning your teeth is a soft-bristled one.
Remember, the point of brushing is to remove plaque. Despite how soft the bristles are, they are still incredibly effective. Unfortunately, once plaque has hardened into tartar, even the toughest toothbrush bristles won’t be able to remove them. You’ll only injure your gums and erode your enamel.
For a thorough cleaning, you should follow a very specific technique. Ideally, you should brush your teeth using gentle, circular strokes. Furthermore, the angle of the toothbrush should be around forty-five degrees pointing towards the gum line.
Divide the two-minute time frame by the four quadrants of your mouth–don’t just focus on one area. Another important thing to remember is to not over-brush. Twice a day for two minutes is the standard and plenty.
If you are unsure about the techniques you’re using or if you still have questions about brushing, we are more than happy to discuss these matters with you.
