What’s It Like to Have Dentures?

It can feel weird to wear dentures in Pompano Beach, especially if it’s your first time. Getting used to your new dentures will require patience because it’s going to take weeks until you finally get accustomed to them. You don’t wake up the next day and expect everything to be normal.

You’ll need to adjust to your new restoration, especially when you talk and eat. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect when wearing dentures

Getting Used to Your Dentures Timeline

First 24 Hours

Avoid removing your dentures during the first 24 hours so your gums can heal. The dentures you’re wearing function like a band-aid, so you’ll need to keep them in your mouth while you sleep. After 24 hours, you can remove your dentures during bedtime so your gums can rest. The extraction site will still feel sore, so it’s best if you consume soft foods until you no longer feel discomfort.

First 14 Days

It’s not uncommon to feel sore spots during the first day. Your gum tissues will continue to contract while it heals, and there’s a possibility that your dentist will have to adjust your dentures, so they fit your mouth comfortably

After the first 14 days, the sore spots will subside. Try to check if your dentures still fit you well, because if you feel discomfort, you can always go back for a re-adjustment.
