Root canals are performed to eliminate an infection in the soft tissue inside of the tooth. If left unchecked, this infection can spread to the tooth itself and cause it to fall out. Stopping this infection is critical to your oral health and to preserving the tooth.
Oral surgery can often make patients anxious about seeing a dentist, but our practice uses sedation services to make your visit as comfortable as possible. For a root canal procedure, your dentist will first conduct an exam using scans and x-rays to determine where the infection is, and how extensive.
Your dentist will use a thin drill to remove the infected pulp and smoothen the inside of the tooth. Then the cavity is disinfected and sealed permanently, preserving the tooth and preventing the need for an extraction. Root canals are performed with local anesthesia that should help with any discomfort you might feel. We aspire to make your root canal appointment as smooth as possible.
