How to Keep Your Braces Clean

Getting your braces in Pompano Beach is just the start of your journey towards achieving a healthy mouth. Did you know that part of your responsibility to maintain your oral health is keeping your mouth clean?

Keeping your teeth and gums clean daily can be a real challenge for braces wearers. Unfortunately, you have no choice but to make certain sacrifices. Part of that sacrifice is to ensure that you keep your braces clean at all times.

People with braces are more prone to develop oral health problems like tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease because bacteria and plaque accumulate around the brackets and wires. Not to worry because once you get the hang of it, cleaning will be a breeze.

How to Clean Your Braces

Brush Your Teeth Thoroughly

Since traditional metal braces are attached to the front side of your teeth they can make cleaning a bit more difficult.

When you brush, take your time and pay extra attention to the areas that you normally miss because that’s where food particles and bacteria hide.

Don’t be in a hurry. Follow the two-minute rule, twice a day. We also recommend you invest in an interdental toothbrush for a more thorough clean.

Floss Once Daily

Flossing once a day isn’t too much to ask but a lot of people skip flossing because they find it challenging especially with braces. But, flossing is one of the secrets to a healthy mouth!

Correcting misalignment is useless if your teeth are decayed and damaged. So, to keep them in great shape you must exert some effort and learn the techniques of flossing with braces. Don’t worry, sooner or later you’ll be able to master it!
