People who have lose a few of their teeth are typically desperate to regain their smiles. Out of desperation, many of them look for fast solutions, like bridges and dentures. However, if you are looking for a restorative solution that will last, we highly recommend dental implants in 33062.
Implants were invented by Per-Ingvar Brånemark, a Swedish orthopedic surgeon. A dental implant is a fixture composed of three parts – post, abutment, and crown. You can think of it as a replica of a tooth root but instead of looking like an actual tooth root, an implant looks more like a screw that’s embedded in your jawbone.
To access your jawbone, your oral surgeon will cut your gum tissues open to expose the bone underneath. A tool is then used to drill holes into the bone where the dental implants are placed.
The depth of the implant will be similar to the depth of a natural tooth root. You’ll be given temporary dentures while you wait for bone tissues to grow around the implant in a process known as osseointegration. This process will take several months to complete but it has to be done to provide a solid and secure foundation for your artificial tooth.
After the success of osseointegration, the abutments are placed. Your gums will be reopened again to expose the implants. Once exposed, the abutments will be attached. The gum tissues are stitched back to close the sides but not over the abutment.
After the gums have healed, which is about two weeks, your oral surgeon will ask you to come back so that the artificial teeth may be attached.
Dental implants are worth the wait and they are definitely worth the price because they resemble natural teeth! If you want to know more about dental implants, we are excited answer your questions.
